
Julius Berg Kaasin is known for his expertise in intellectual property rights (IP) such as trademarks, copyrights, patents and designs. He also specialises in unfair competition law, trade secrets law and technology law. Julius assists clients with establishment, enforcement and commercialisation of all types of IP rights, and he has broad industry experience from retail and technology, also from many years as in-house Legal Counsel at baby and juvenile equipment manufacturer Stokke. Julius' also assist clients in media, energy, FMCG and pharmaceutical industries.
Julius has extensive experience with complex contract negotiations for all types of commercial contracts, development of IP strategies, as well as purchase and sale of technology companies. He is also an experienced litigator.
Julius is also frequently recognised for his expertise in intellectual property rights, most recently by World Trademark Review (2023), Legal 500 (2023), IAM Patent 1000 (2022) and Chambers and Partners (2017). He also won the category “Up & Coming” in the “Retail/Merchandising law” category of Finansavisen’s lawyer survey for 2021 and 2022, where he was also ranked in 2019 (#4) and 2020 (#5). He was also ranked by Finansavisen in the area of “Intellectual property rights” for 2021 (#4) and 2022 (#2).
Julius is a Board Member at the Norwegian Association for the Protection of Industry Property (NIR)/the Norwegian AIPPI Group, the Norwegian Anti-Counterfeiting Group (NACG), and Licensing Executives Society Scandinavia (LES Scandinavia).
He is also a supervisor and examiner for master’s thesis with subjects in intellectual property law and related areas of law at the University of Oslo and University of Bergen. Julius is also the Editor of the Norwegian IP blog IP-trollet (" the IP Troll"), and is a popular speaker in his areas of expertise, including lectures and programmes for the Norwegian Center for Continuing Legal Education (Juristenes Utdanningssenter – JUS) and the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (Patentstyret).#4)
