Julius Berg Kaasin

Julius Berg Kaasin is known for his expertise in intellectual property (IP), dispute resolution and retail. He heads Brækhus' IP practice and assists businesses with establishment, enforcement, and commercialization of all IP rights. In addition to retail, Julius primarily works within technology, energy, and pharmaceutical industries. As a former in-house lawyer, Julius is dedicated to finding good commercial solutions. He has also litigated several major IP cases in court, and has an extensive international network.
Under Julius' leadership, Brækhus was awarded Norwegian Trademark Law Firm of the Year at the Managing IP Awards in 2023. Julius is also recognized by Legal 500, Chambers, Managing IP, IAM Patent 1000, IAM Strategy 300 and World Trademark Review. In Norwegian financial magazine Kapital's annual lawyer survey, Julius was ranked top 10 Norwegian lawyers for IP (10th place)) and retail (7th place).

Successfully represented Flytoget AS (the Oslo airport express train) in a highly continuous copyright dispute towards a former customer (consultancy firm) regarding use of IT-specifications.
Patent Litigation
Represented Norwegian biotech company in patent litigation validity proceedings before the Borgarting Appeal Court.
Strategic IP advisory
Assisted several Norwegian and international companies in most industries with strategic advice on establishing, enforcing, and commercializing IP and related rights. The work also involves managing and coordinating a network of lawyers in different countries.
Trademark and Unfair Competition Litigation
Represented one of the world's largest energy drink producers in a lawsuit concerning trademark infringement and violations under unfair competition law.
Trademark Litigation
Represented a global, leading manufacturer of action sports equipment (skateboard/snowboard) in a lawsuit against the Norwegian State regarding the validity of trademarks.
